The spring two-day today finished in Ronald Yu and Jason Hu tying
for first place on 8.5/10.

The Spring One-Day Tournament was won by Ronald Yu! There were
242 players!

Schools Chess Challenge 2002
The Schools Chess Challenge was held on Sunday 22nd of September. There were a
record
198 teams and
603 participants spread over the two tournaments. The number
of schools was divided as such: Secondary 37, Primary 75, Total 112.
It is now officially the biggest
tournament ever held in NSW!!
Fort Street High School (Vincent Suttor, Michael Yu, Jack Wu) were the
winners in the Secondary division.
James Ruse Agricultural High School (Aaron Yap, Hoi-Ming Chan, Lok-hin Lam) were
2nd
Knox Grammar (James Cronan, Blair Mandla, John Szeto) were 3rd

and Michael Rice) were the winners in the Primary division.

The NSWJCL wishes to give its thanks to Knox
Grammar for the use of their venue and considerable support. There aren't
many venues where 600 players can be accommodated!
Thanks must be given to the people who helped so hard
throughout the day, whether they were arbiters, organisers, cooks, canteen
helpers. Without them such an event would not be possible. They include
Richard Gastineau-Hills, Margaret Cuckson, Marge Lip, Michael Lip, Allan
Richards, Yvonne Chong, Veronica Klimenko, Brett Tindall, Justin Yancey,
John Cronan, Jenny Cronan,Robert Song, Sonia Song, Mira Rej, Eva Rej. There will be more people added to
this list as there so many people helping.
Children's Olympiad Malaysia 2002
Ten NSW Juniors played in the Children's Olympiad. The outstanding result from
the Australian team was former NSW Junior Champion Tomek Rej! He distinguished
himself on board 2 and scored 5.5 out of 9 against a hard field.
