The Australian Schools Teams Championships (ASTC), which is usually held at the
beginning of December, is conducted in four divisions. The teams to
represent NSW in these divisions will be determined as follows:
-
Primary Open Division: The winner of the NSW Primary Schools
Competition is entitled to represent NSW in this division. However, if
the NSW competition finishes very late in the year it may be necessary
to determine the school to represent NSW before the NSW winner is known.
In this case the Primary Schools Coordinator will select the school from
the schools not yet eliminated from the finals, if
necessary by means of a playoff.
-
Primary Girls Division: As the NSW Primary Schools Competition
does not necessarily determine the top girls team (as many
girls play in mixed teams) the team to represent NSW in this division
will be selected by the Primary Schools Coordinator, if necessary by
means of a
playoff . Schools wishing to nominate a team to be considered for
selection should
contact the Primary Schools Coordinator before the end of second term.
The selection (including any play-off) should be completed by the end of
third term to enable the selected team to make its travel arrangements
and prepare for the national championships.
-
Secondary Open Division: In most states the secondary schools
competitions produce overall winners which thereby qualify to represent
those states in the national event. In NSW, however, the Secondary
Schools competition is divided into three separate grades based on
school year and there is no single winning secondary team. A separate
selection process is therefore necessary to determine the NSW Secondary
Open team, which may contain players from any secondary year (7 to 12).
If necessary a play-off will be held. Schools wishing to nominate a team
to be considered for selection should contact the Secondary Schools
Coordinator before the end of second term. The selection (including any
play-off) should be completed by the end of third term to enable the
selected team to make its travel arrangements and prepare for the
national championships.
-
Secondary Girls Division: A similar procedure to that described
above for the Secondary Open Division will be used to determine the school to
represent NSW in the Secondary Girls Division.
To be eligible for selection
the school must have participated in the NSW Primary or Secondary Schools Competition
and each member of the team must have played in at least one of the following in
the year of the ASTC for which qualification is sought:
1. At
least 50% of the preliminary (pre-finals) matches for his/her team in the NSW Primary or
Secondary Schools Competition;
2. The
NSW Junior (Under 18) Championship;
3. The
NSW
Under 12 Championship plus any two-day NSWJCL tournament;
4. The
City of Sydney Junior Championships (any age division) plus any two-day
NSWJCL tournament; or
5. The
NSW Girls Championships (either age division) plus any two-day NSWJCL
tournament.
The exact selection process (for
other than the Primary Open Division) will be determined by the NSWJCL
Council, but may involve a play-off match or matches between nominated
teams. |
