NEWCASTLE WINTER FAMILY TOURNAMENT

(Chessmas in July)

Sunday 30 July 2023

This tournament is a social individual unrated tournament in which juniors and adults can get together to play, learn and enjoy the game of chess. Anyone can play regardless of skill level or age. Parents, children and other family members are encouraged to come along and participate, together with school chess teachers and anyone else who is interested.

Eligibility:  All are welcome. (Entrants do not have to be members of the NSW Junior Chess League or the NSW Chess Association but are welcome to join)

Format:  The tournament will be in the ‘Swiss’ format (it is not a knock-out – everyone plays in all rounds). Modified pairings will be employed to reduce the likelihood of strong adults playing novice juniors.

Time Limit:  Chess clocks will be used, 15 minutes per player per game.

Venue:  Newcastle PCYC, Young Road, Broadmeadow.

Time:  Registration 9:15 a.m., play starts 10:00 a.m., finish by 2:30 p.m.

Lunch:  Players may bring their own lunch and refreshments or purchase these at a canteen which will be available at the venue (other facilities are also available nearby).

Entry fee:  $5 for juniors (under 18), $10 for adults.

Entries:  While you can just turn up and enter on the day, it helps the organization if you enter in advance (by email to david.absalom92@gmail.com).

Enquiries:  David Absalom, email david.absalom92@gmail.com.

The NEWCASTLE JUNIOR CHESS CLUB meets at the Newcastle PCYC on most Fridays from 6.30 to 9 p.m. during school terms. (To find out which Fridays, contact David Absalom, email david.absalom92@gmail.com).
