Sunday 23 July 2017
This tournament is a social individual unrated tournament in which juniors and adults can get together to play, learn and enjoy the game of chess. Anyone can play regardless of skill level or age. Parents, children and other family members are encouraged to come along and participate, together with school chess teachers and anyone else who is interested.
Eligibility: All are welcome. (Entrants do not have to be members of the NSW Junior Chess League or the NSW Chess Association but are welcome to join)
Format: The tournament will be in the ‘Swiss’ format (it is not a knock-out – everyone plays in all rounds). Chess clocks will be used with a time limit of 15 minutes per person per game. Modified pairings will be employed to reduce the likelihood of strong adults playing novice juniors.
Venue: Newcastle PCYC, Young Road, Broadmeadow.
Time: Registration 9:15 a.m., play starts 10:00 a.m., lunch 12 noon to 12.30 p.m., finish by 2:30 p.m.
Lunch: Players may bring their own lunch and refreshments or purchase these at a canteen which will be available at the venue (other facilities are also available nearby).
Entry fee: $5 for juniors (under 18), $8 for adults. Discounts for multiple members of the same family.
Entries: While you can just turn up and enter on the day, it helps the organization if you enter in advance (by email to firstname.lastname@example.org).
Enquiries: David Absalom, email email@example.com.
